The “Resume” Stuff

This never ceases to attract my attention
So many websites, so many examples, so many books, so many articles and now one more (^_*) leaving us in a confused state more often than not that “I am not good enough” or the other extreme of “I am amazing and I rock and what a resume I have” and blah blah.
Yes, the resume/ CV is important and helps to find you a great job, but this has reached a point where people have started looking at this like their life, like this resume defines us. If the resume doesn’t have good stuff, then we are useless. Add to this, a tinge of comparison esp. looking at our friends. Some are managers, some are directors, VP’s, CEOs and all of us are the same age! What a damper. It is not that we don’t have a decent life or a job, we have not found a way to market it right, to find the hidden meaning in our job. Engineers I know have become hair stylists, run restaurants, become pre-school teachers, joined politics, you see - It does not matter as far as you break the shackles of this “Resume”

First of all, we need to understand some golden rules:
Busy does not mean productive
Activity does not mean accomplishment
We work with people and not for people
We are in an era of collaboration and not just competition
Decades later, when I pen down my resume, here’s what I would like to see
Did I accomplish more or contribute and serve more
Did I deliver results or did I build relationships
Did I make enough money or did I make enough difference to my family, lives around me, the organization
Did I create an impression or did I make an impact
Did I progress in my career or did I help others progress
Websites can teach you to build a resume, but only you can build a legacy, choice is yours! Anyone and everyone in any capacity can make an impact (see here if this still does not sink in). No matter what crap you are facing at work now, just remember, you are important and are making a difference to others some way or the other. Just continue to strive.
